A Strategic Vision for Growth

On June 4, 2009, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Hon. George Smitherman, issued a discussion paper entitled Simcoe Area: A Strategic Vision for Growth.  The paper was released concurrently with an announcement regarding the expansion of the City's boundary and the introduction and first reading of Bill 196.

The Simcoe Area Vision builds on the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe that was approved in June 2006.  It proposes a strategy for Central Ontario and direction on managing the growth which is forecasted to 2031.  The strategic vision is designed to balance sustainable growth, job creation and environmental protection.

Comments and feedback on the document are invited until September 2, 2009.  Following the review process and pursuant to the Places to Grow Act, 2005, the Province intends to propose a Simcoe area-specific amendment to the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
